At Marford Road Dental we give great importance to the consultation appointment. We book long appointment times to ensure you have all the time needed to tell us what you are willing to achieve. An examination appointment is not only about checking your gums and teeth; we are here to listen to your concerns and requests to enable you to achieve a well-functioning mouth with a beautiful smile.

We follow a ‘patient journey’ system at our practice which the team has developed after analysing over 80 dental practices across the UK. The ‘patient journey’ is designed to give our patients the best experience possible in a consistent manner. You should expect to receive the same service throughout your contact with us, starting from the reception staff to the surgery staff and even when you are referred to see any of the specialists here.

Once we have you comfortable on the chair, we will ask you to explain to us what you would like to achieve, whether this is to gain better oral function or whether we can assist you for aesthetic reasons.

Once we have heard your concerns and/or goals we will carry out the following:

  • A thorough comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums and mouth

  • X-rays discussed and explained as well as photographs taken as necessary

  • A detailed explanation of all active problems and the scope of what can be improved within your mouth

  • When discussing treatment, relevant options will be discussed, so that together we can decide what treatment would be suitable for you. This would include advantages and prognosis as well as any risks or costs involved

  • Maintenance: in order to minimise future risk of additional problems with your oral health we’d discuss daily oral hygiene regime and habits, which may involve being advised to visit our hygienist

  • We'd provide you with a full treatment plan and the opportunity to ask any questions you may have

  • If you require no other treatment, your dentist will let you know when you should come for your next routine check-up

How does this benefit you?

  • Prevention is better than cure. Get tailored individual advice to prevent problems before they start

  • Early detection of problems

  • Maintaining good oral health

Although in the past, all patients were asked to see a dentist every ‘6 months,’ nowadays we know that the level of risk of developing disease should dictate the frequency of your dental check-up. In other words you may need to see a dentist every 3 months, 6 months or 12 months.
